Tuning: Standard

This is great up-tempo jam by John Craigie. I am not sure if he uses the simple chords I have listed here or
slight variations on them, but it sounds good with these so I thought I would start there, and if anyone has
other ideas I've love to see them. This is my first time trying to make a strumming pattern as part of a chord
sheet, so feedback would be appreciated there as well. I think it sounds pretty good. Feel free to play other
strumming patterns if that one doesn't work for you, the song will still sound good!

There are short instrumental jams after each chorus, he just stays on G as the solo guitar goes.

[Intro]

G (with included strumming pattern) x4

[Verse 1]
G
I slept through the earthquake that leveled this town

I won't sleep through the next one I’m wide awake now
            C7
And all the drugs in this world couldn't calm me down
        G
All the girls in this city couldn't turn me around
  D
Except for this one chick, she knows who she is
           C7
She got me speaking in tongues every time we kiss
            D
But I ain’t ready for her, she ain't ready for me
           C7
We'll meet back up when we're old when there ain't nothing left to see

[Chorus]
   G
ah yeah
                  C7 G
I weep when I'm alone, I smile through the rest
                D C7 G
I laugh cause I know the truth, Every light is surrounded by darkness

[Verse 2]
G
I stole a bunch of shit from ol' Blaze Foley

He's dead now and I’m all alone
          C7
I’ve been listening to Donovan they're kicking my ass
          G
I’ve been singing to these hipsters, they ain't singing back
    D
I'd love to tell you all the things I've seen
        C7
But the truth is something that you never could believe
      D
And I ain’t gonna be there when you die
        C7
I'll be holding up the candle to god's bloodshot eyes

[Chorus]
   G
ah yeah
                  C7 G
I weep when I'm alone, I smile through the rest
                D C7 G
I laugh cause I know the truth, Every light is surrounded by darkness

[Verse 3]
G
Y'all got your groupies they hang and they linger

I've got bucket list grandmas and young male folk singers
C7
Asking me questions trying to get some gigs
       G
I say, don't be in such a hurry to lose everything
        D
Cause I binged last night and I'm starving today
        C7
In this goddamned job there ain't no consistency

[Chorus]
   G
ah yeah
                  C7 G
I weep when I'm alone, I smile through the rest
                D C7 G
I laugh cause I know the truth, Every light is surrounded by darkness

[Verse 4]
G
If you see my mama don't tell her I'm this skinny

If you see my mama don't tell her bout my fall
       C7
If you see my mama maybe the best thing
      G
Is to not tell my mama that you saw me at all
       D
If the cancer don't kill us then the texting will
          C7
Trying to dial in a bone driving off some cliff

[Chorus]
   G
ah yeah
                  C7 G
I weep when I'm alone, I smile through the rest
                D C7 G
I laugh cause I know the truth, Every light is surrounded by darkness
