    	    	Вступление

The Creek That Was
by: Verne Garrison, May 15, 2008
at Valley Park, Mo.
Banjo tuned to E played in key of D

      D G D
There was a little creek,
                              A
That ran thru the old Edwards place
       D G D
I used to pass it every week
              A D
But now it is barely a trace

                   G D
Navy beans, little democrats, my dad called them
                                          A
Would soak all day in a pot of that creek water
     D G
They were the main course
                   D
Of my grandparents supper

                  G D
That little creek is now grown over
                            A
Corporate farmers plowed it shut
     D G D
They got three more feet for their rovers
                          A D
Sealed shut, our memories to satisfy their glut

          G D
But I can still picture it
                              A
Like it was when my dad was a lad
     D G D
With his little wooden bucket
                  A D
Drawing water for their supper, how glad

            G D
I can still see where it was,
                        A
When I drive by the old place
       D G D
Hidden in the grassy waterway
                           A D
Ignoring the farm tractors noisy buzz

                 G
Yes, they boiled their navy (D beans
                                       A
Little democrats is what my dad called them
        G D
In that clear, clean creek water
          A D
The creek that was..

No creek there no more..
